RESPONSIBILITIES:Reporting to the Senior Pilot, the incumbent will be solely responsible for all vessel piloting at the Port of Walvis Bay, which includes inter alia:
  • Carry out all relevant piloting duties as stipulated in the Namibian Ports Authority Act, 1994 (Act No.2 of 1994), and supplemented by the port regulations;
  • Competently pilot vessels within the port limits and assist with port administration;
  • Promote the business of NAMPORT;
  • Protects and safeguard Namport’s regulation, property and assets, and that of visiting vessels under compulsory pilotage;
  • Responsible for the training and development of Namibian Trainees Pilots and staff in the Marine Department through the transfer of skills knowledge, coaching and mentoring;
  • Produce progress quarterly reports on the training, identify training needs and make recommendations;
  • Maintain an appropriate degree of competence; and
  • Assist the Port Captain with the general operations of the marine service division including ad-hoc duties where and when required
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Class 1 Master Marine Foreign going Certificate of Competency issued under STCW 2010 as amended in 1995, should also have at least 2 years marine pilot’s experience with an Open License;
  • Valid Ancillary course as per Manilla Amendment’s to STCW 2010
SKILLS:
  • Knowledge and experience of Safety and Environmental ISO 14001, ISO 19001 and NOSA standards;
  • Well coordinated and be able to command respect from Ship’s Masters;
  • Strong communication skills, supervisory skills, decision making skills,
  • Medically fit and have good eyesight;
  • Able to work independently and be highly flexible;
  • The candidate must be a;
  1. Namibian citizen OR in the absence of which
  2. A permanent residence holder;
  3. In the event that we must appoint a candidate from foreign country, a police clearance certificate from the country of origin will be required;
  4. Must be medically fit and have good eyesight
