Senior Mining Engineer – Load & Haul

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide technical expertise to the mining team in order to improve the operational efficiencies and optimize Life of
Mine. To coordinate and engage diversified portfolios of load and Haul projects – long term and largely study works such as
the construction, repairing and maintenance of the mine’s utility systems and related production infrastructure to aid the
production processes in the open pit to achieve safe and efficient extraction of materials.

Key Performance Areas:

• Manage and monitor the open pit load and haul process operations and associated activities to ensure the long term
viability of the mine.
• Investigate problems and improve loading and hauling efficiencies. Identifies, designs and implements best loading and
hauling practices.
• Identify opportunity for continual pit optimization and ensures that loading and hauling operations are designed, planned
and carried out in a safe manner and that the operational objectives are achieved on time within budget, and without any
adverse effect on the environment.
• Identifies and implements relevant software systems.
• Initiate productivity improvement projects by continuously developing and implementing best and most effective
practices for quality assurance, safety and efficiency of procedures as provided for in the work area.
• Drafts and implements procedures in order to optimize the utilization and performance of load and haul in order to
achieve production targets and contribute towards the profitability of the company.
• Implements monthly, quarterly and annual mine plans.
• Capture and analyze load and haul results and prepare relevant reports accordingly.
• Participate in drafting the annual load and haul section budgets.
• Investigate and recommend the types of earthmoving equipment to be used in order to optimize the operation of the
mine.
• Carry out the medium and long term earthmoving equipment forecasts in order to determine the capital requirements.
• Manage own performance and that of subordinates by maintaining and sharing professional knowledge and skills.
• Adhere to all laid down Safety, Health, Environment and Radiation standards and procedures.

Requirements and experience:

• BSc Engineering or BTech Mining Engineering Degree.
• Any post graduate studies will be an added advantage.
• Registered or eligible for registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia.
• 5 - 7 Years’ experience in an open pit mining environment.
• Excellent understanding of Load & Haul environment.
• Contract management experience is a distinct advantage.
• Strong technical and analytical skills in mining.
• Exposure to multi-national, ethnic and cultural environment.
• Code B/BE Driver’s Licence.
