Elonga Internship CC was founded in 2007 by Gerda Schuler who wanted to start an internship program that offers interns a personal and affordable approach and the experience from an insider. She then opened the ELONGA-hostel in 2008. What interns, students and volunteers appreciate most about the program and the hostel is the individual attention, the personal customer care, the “at home” feeling and ELONGA’s deep insight knowledge and experience of Namibia and it’s political and cultural system and organisations. In the Oshiwambo language ‘ELONGA’ is similar to a word that means ‘putting your knowledge of your study into work’, in other words: in an internship.
It is ELONGA’s mission to help international people to find the optimal and individually chosen intern or volunteer placement in Namibia. ELONGA wants to give you something on your stay, so you return with a broader understanding and appreciation of Africa’s culture and people. Furthermore ELONGA should feel like a family where people live in harmony. For an organisation it should be an interesting advantage to receive and guide a young student employee with a fresh perspective working for you.
ELONGA is open to anybody and we don’t limit people because of their age, gender, preferences or cultural background. For Namibians we can offer internships or voluntary positions for a lower rate, since we don’t have to provide accommodation or to give you information on Namibian culture or touristic attractions or assist in booking a flight or trip, like we do with our guests from abroad.
